Tell us about the inspiration behind your label and how it connects to Black History Month.

The intention behind my design for the juice label was to highlight the faces of those in my community. Through color, shape and form I wanted to present a striking image that felt powerful and clean; just way a Pressed juice is.

How would you describe your artistic process?

My process is spontaneous and gesture focused. Often when I work, I go in with just an idea and very quickly move through those ideas with swift line work. Once I have the basis of the design down, the colors I choose are just as unplanned. I’ll sometimes move through several color palettes before I land on what feels right.

How did you get your start as an artist?

My start as an artist came when I took my first painting class during my senior year of my Undergraduate degree. We had to churn out multiple paintings, exploring various styles and it was so challenging. But, I ended up selling everything I painted in that class. I thought then, hey, I might like this and I might be okay at it. It took several years before I got the courage to take my work full-time though.

When you’re not busy creating art pieces, how do you like to spend your free time?

I’m often on a walk with my husband Joshua and our dog Prince. We love to run around town, visit museums, try new food, and at the moment, we’re working to renovate our house.

Greens 2, Apple Lemon Kale juice! I remember it was the first green juice I had that didn’t just taste like grass. It was a flavorful and enjoyable way to get my greens.
