Get to know artist Tiffany Tucker Boyd

The artist behind this month’s
Black History Month Orange Turmeric label.

Tiffany Tucker Boyd

Hometown:

Dublin, CA (by way of Los Angeles, CA)

Tell us about the inspiration behind your label and how it connects to Black History Month.

I was inspired by the acts of giving and receiving “healthy” flowers. I strongly believe that for continued growth and success, it is critical that we show each other love and appreciation; that we honor those before us and cherish each other while we are here to receive it. Few things are more motivating and empowering than a supportive network, and I believe this to be especially true for the Black community.

Is there any special symbolism in the figures chosen or the colors used?

Within this piece, I subtly incorporated the colors of Black History Month. Red for her sweatshirt, yellow for the background, green within the bouquet of fruits and vegetables and black for her hair. The subject is lovingly holding the “healthy” flowers she’s received.

How would you describe your artistic process?

I draw inspiration for my art from everything around me – people, photography, colors, nature, music etc. I also enjoy working with different mediums, from digital illustration to acrylic or plaster on canvas. Once I have an idea, I will often start with a sketch and then dive into adding color and or texture.

How did you get your start as an artist?

My love for art started as far back as I can remember. As a child, you could find me at the kitchen table, illustrating my own picture books. In my youth, I would obligingly draw portraits of friends and paint designs on my bedroom furniture (thanks Mom). As an adult, I stopped creating, as many of us often do. However, I re-discovered my love and passion for art during the pandemic as an outlet. It was during lockdown that I created Cateeva Studio, a place where I could express and share various forms of art and design. Reconnecting with art and putting it into the universe has been the best decision. It has brought so much joy and passion to my life.

When you’re not busy creating art pieces, how do you like to spend your free time?

I enjoy spending quality time with my friends and family, from discovering new restaurants to traveling to new places. I’m a lover of the outdoors and enjoy hiking and camping with my husband.

So many! But if I had to pick one, it would be Greens 3. I’m a big ginger fan!
